Archaeology Courses at La Borie du Four
If archaeology is your passion, then Perigord is your
place. In this corner of France, fascinating evidence of human dwelling
dates back tens of thousands of years.
Fifty years ago, Glyn Daniel, the exuberant Disney Professor
of Archaeology at Cambridge, visited Periogord and was enthused by all that
he found there. As a result, he penned the famous book, ‘The Hungry
Archaeologist’, detailing his inspiring tours of the painted caves
of the Dordogne and whetting readers appetites with his accompanying enthusiasm
for the artistic and gastronomic masterpieces of the region.
And now, with Gite Allure and Keith Gardner of the Council
for British Archaeology, you too can become a hungry archaeologist and follow
in Daniel’s footsteps witnessing the great type-sites of the Perigord
including La Micoque and La Madeleine. You can enter the painted caves,
such as Font de Gaume, Les Combarelles and Lascaux II and, like Daniel,
complement your daily learning with the delicious wines of Bergerac and
the gastronomic delights of Perigord cuisine.
Our week long, fully guided archaeology
tour will take you through the National Museum of Prehistory and then
transport you through the stunning sites, sounds and scenery of Perigord
so that you experience an amazing amount about prehistoric man while enjoying
the very best catering and cuisine that the Dordogne has to offer.
